King David lead the nation of Israel to do things that they did not think they could do. He exhorted them to go above and beyond and he lead by example that they could do more than they thought via the Lord working through them. Once he began to give, so did the nation.
Giving is contagious. The bible records at least two occasions wherein the nation of Israel gave so much that the leaders requested them to cease their giving.
1. Exo 36:5 And they spake unto Moses, saying, The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work, which the LORD commanded to make.
2. 2 Chr 31:10 And Azariah the chief priest of the house of Zadok answered him, and said, Since the people began to bring the offerings into the house of the LORD, we have had enough to eat, and have left plenty: for the LORD hath blessed his people; and that which is left is this great store.
Each of us ought to ask and answer some questions. Questions such as:
1. Who sets the example for giving in your church? Your home?
2. Do you give willingly?
3. Do you hear murmuring relating to giving?
4. Do you merely give your tithes, but withhold giving of you time and talent?
5. When was the last time you recall an epidemic of giving breaking out in your church? Will you be the one to start it?
