Who's Teaching Who

Titus 2:1-5 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

The Bible gives the method of Parental Succession:

Older men to teach younger men to become good and decent men.
Older women to teach younger women to become good and decent women.

That is extremely profound, isn’t it?

Until about 30-40 years ago most churches had Sunday School classes that were divided into women and men’s classes. The older women had the opportunity to teach the younger women. For the most part, churches do not have those divided classes anymore and have forfeited that teaching time. Those women who are over 50 were taught by their mother or Sunday School teacher this principle. I am not speaking of a spiritual learning, rather just the principle of teaching womanhood and motherhood.

I am not saying to all those who are under 50 that you missed out on this or that you have failed in teaching this same principle. The failure lies within the society of the generations involved. The educational system changed 30 to 40 years ago. This principle is not passed on as it once was, thus for many who would be teaching their off-spring now have never heard, nor have they been taught to teach these things to their own children. All of this changed during the 1960’s. The 1970’s produced a whole new series of “value systems”. No longer does the mother pass on to the daughter the principles of motherhood and womanhood, but now it comes from society and TV and even music.

Even in the workplace, managers are much younger and more inexperienced. They are the ones directing the much older and more mature worker. This leads to problems for the inflexible person.
