Balancing Your Life

The Law of Balance is built into our universe. For things to function properly, there must be equilibrium. For example…
The Earth doesn't vibrate when it rotates because it is balanced on it's axis. We neither freeze to death nor burn up because we are just the right distance from the sun. Nature exists in balanced ecosystems. God has built checks and balances into nature to keep the food chain in order. In Architecture, the stress on a building must be balanced or it will collapse. The Human Body works best when our systems are balanced. Imbalance is called "illness". Restoring balance is called healing.
One of the most common problems that I see in the world is people living imbalanced lives. It is a disease with many symptoms but the same root cause. You can become imbalanced with anything - working, eating, sleeping, playing, TV, sex, …etc. The fact is many business people tend to pay more attention to their PUBLIC lives and neglect their PRIVATE side. Like poor photographs, they are overexposed and underdeveloped.
The results of imbalance are always the same: frustration and fatigue. Like imbalanced tires, you wear out quickly. Imbalance unchecked eventually leads to burnout.
A number of years ago, a landmark study was conducted on "Peak Performers" - those who were leaders in their respective fields. One of the most common denominators of peak performers was, contrary to popular myth, that they were not workaholics but rather balanced individuals.
The most balanced person who ever lived was Jesus Christ. The Bible says, he grew intellectually, physically, spiritually and socially (Luke 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.). How would you rate yourself in these four categories of growth? Is there balance in your life or have you neglected one or more of these key areas? Let me challenge you to do a personal check up: Am I mentally sharper than 5 years ago? Why not? Will I do anything about it? Am I frequently complaining of fatigue or poor health? What's my plan to change? Am I developing the spiritual side of my life? What am I doing to better understand God and his purpose for my life? Am I cultivating meaningful relationships where support is given and received? Who can count on me as a genuine friend?

Balance! I am glad you have posted this. I have been harping on this for a long time. I am amazed on the balance that is needed in every aspect of live to include most importantly the ministry. The devil vehemently attempts to keep us off balance either to the left of right, it doesnt matter to him...

Great post! somthing I need to examine in my own life! I do have one question though. What about people with life threatning deseases, do you think their life is out of ballance also? I've seen a lot of good people suffer and some who have died from diffrent deseases, I'm curious of your thoughts about these situations.

I think maybe in the early stages proper balance in their life might have helped. I am a diabetic and my dad and brother both died from diabetes complications. I decided to take control of it in my life. I found that the right balance has helped in my life. Certinally wont cure everyone but I do believe it would help.

I learned over the summer by viewing a DVD by Hugh Ross that the moon is what keeps the earth in balance on its axis (keeps it from vibrating). Good point, indeed.

I talked with my husband about your post because it raised a lot of questions for me. He said I should mention his thoughts...

He agrees with you , but he also thinks that God allows SOME good people to deal with these horrible illnesses to set an example for others. (Kinda like Jesus did, but to a MUCH lesser extent.) When those people display their love for God and God's love for them right to the end,(like my grandpa did) it gives SOME people comfort. Comfort in knowing they don't have to go it alone. And for those who help that person to the end, it can give them a sense of peace and understanding.

I really appreciate this post today, my grandpa passed away 5 years ago the 17th and I was having a hard time with it. You, in a round about way, helped me get through it. So Thanx!

I know God has a plan for each one of us, and I like to think this may have been His plan for my grandpa. Your definitely right about balance in the early years of life. It probably had an affect on his health towards the later years of his life too. He was also a diabetic, but he passed away from cancer of the brain.

I have an auto-immune disease that often attacks my body in some interesting ways, but like you said if I'm out of balance somewhere in my life, it attacks me more than usual, and apparently I'm outta wack again. I definitely needed the eye opener.

Thanx again!
